In addition to moving, the next release of ALICE.NET will also have a new look thanks to the Krypton Toolkit by ComponentFactory. (No, I’m not getting paid to plug it… unfortunately.) I like the very clean look it provides, and intend to use it on some of my other projects as well.

Speaking of releases, I have finally finished rewriting a considerable portion of the underlying code, including support for recolored layers, and it should be released within the month (October, that is).

I don’t like to say this, because it’s happened to me so many times with so many projects in the past, and because I hate the implications, but - there have been further delays with the next release of ALICE.NET. Some of them are technical, like problems that cropped up when I tried to implement layer recoloring (and the subsequent reworking of the internal layer system).

However, some of them are personal: my mother was recently diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer. Her initial surgery went well, but she is still in chemotherapy and needs a lot of help. This has taken my time away from programming on any projects, so I can’t really say for sure when the “next release” I promised will be available. Just remember, patience is a virtue. *cough* n_n”

On another note, I’m also experimenting with BitTorrent distribution, to conserve bandwidth (my server is behind a residential connection). A torrent containing ALICE.NET 1.0 alpha and Ren’s Alice doll is available here. Please let me know if you experience any problems with it, and as with any torrent, please seed as long as possible.

Update: You can also download ALICE.NET from RenaiGames.net. Thanks, Rio!

ALICE.NET is still in the works, but coming along nicely… I think. After the initial release and some beta-testing, this page should become far more interesting.

While I had planned on having a custom PHP script to run this site, after careful consideration (and a reality check) I decided to switch to a premade CMS, for ease-of-update reasons if nothing else. And if anyone saw the original script, you’re probably nodding sagely right now. And I respect that.
So now (once I can pry myself away from playing with all the settings…) I can spend more time working on the program and less time working on the site. Yay!

Some screenshots:
